Pirate Spotting

He lowers his binoculars - the pirates are much closer than they first appeared!

Taken at the 2005 Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney, NSW. The ladies on the bike are part of the <a href="http://www.dykesonbikessydney.org.au/">"Dykes on Bikes"</a> contingent, a clear crowd favourite at every Mardi Gras. There are groups all over the world so I don't know if these two ladies are from the Sydney club or elsewhere. The sound of over 200 loud and proud motorbikes has to be heard to be believed!

Alsa sound broken after update (FC4 x86_64)

I recently applied a whole bundle of updates including alsa-lib on my Fedora Core 4 x86_64 desktop. Since then I started getting the error message

ALSA lib control.c:817:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default
Open error: No such file or directory

whenever I tried to open alsamixer, and similar errors and crashes running other apps that expected to be able to use the Alsa sound system (which worked quite well before the update).

Airbus A380 - As far into the hangar as it gets

This is the new A380 when it made it's first visit to Australian soil - touching down at Brisbane airport for a quick Quantas paintjob before heading down south. Note the size of the massive semi-trailer parked on the apron of the hangar, then look at the plane! Maximum takeoff weight: 590,000 kg (1,300,700 lbs) - yup, a MILLION POUNDS! If you love your specs, you can check out some good A380 stats at <a href="http://www.thaitechnics.com/aircraft/a3xx.html" target="_blank">Thai Technics</a>

We have had a couple of largish bushfires around Keperra and the Gap over the last two days, this afternoon it really took off. Our Fire &amp; Rescue guys were going hard at it in the choppers protect
