(bit of an in-joke for the family :-) - go to http://www.the-whiteboard.com for more of this comic, his stuff is good)Part# | Description | Price |
---|---|---|
(Paperback) by Neil Fiore | ~US$12 at Amazon, sure to be available 2nd-hand or new locally | |
(Paperback) by Thomas A. Limoncelli | ~US$11 at Amazon, but O'Reilly books are popular geek-feed, so likely available in local stores. | |
(Paperback) by David Allen. I have already read it, but I think I need to own a copy as it's the sort of book one needs to refer back to or re-read every year or two (perhaps the only book I've read for myself where I have actually taken notes)! | ~US$11 at Amazon, but it's a pretty popular book so I expect a lot of bookstores would stock it. | |
Calipers - the electronic ones (like these ones) look pretty nice, but a decent set of normal analog ones would be fine too. Jaycar have digital ones in stock, and Dick Smith looks like they are getting them (don't know when they will get stock though). |
$39.95 @ Jaycar $29.95 @ Dick Smith Electronics (not yet in stock) |
|
Stud Finder - no, I haven't turned. - for finding studs behind wall panelling and avoiding drilling into power cables and water pipes. One that does Wood, Metal and Voltage would be ideal - Dick Smith and Jaycar both have models that do that for around $20, but plenty of other places have them too. Some (like the jaycar one) take weird batteries though. | ~ $20 at various places | |

(Paperback) by Richard P. Feynman (From a series of lectures on Quantum Electrodynamics) | ~US$11 at Amazon, sure to be available 2nd-hand or new locally | |
Holeproof Explorer Socks - the only socks worth putting into your boots. Various colours ok, but can't go wrong with black. | ||
One of those portable lcd tv's - the tiny little ones around $100 with a 5.8cm screen. JB Hi-Fi have them. My camera has a tv-out socket, and using a small tv monitor will make getting tricky macro or otherwise physically difficult shots easier. It would need to have an "AV Input". An AV output too would be nice, but not critical. | ~$100 | |
Air tools |
I finally got an air compressor earlier this year, so now air tools are on the menu :-)
I already have a Brad-nailer (finisher), a stapler, spray gun, tyre inflator and degreaser gun. What I don't have is...
|
~$30 and up. |
$40 | ||
Roof Racks for Homer. Prefer the ones with a rectangular cross-section to the round ones. They will need to be "gutter mount" style suitable for older cars. Black. | ~$25 I think for some cheaper sets, but not certain. | |
Printer Paper
|
We finally got a decent printer capable of doing good photo prints. So now I am going to be using up paper! Epson-brand photo quality paper, in Gloss or Semi-gloss (Lustre) finishes. Sizes up to A4. | $20-30 |
Picture Frames and Mattes
|
Frames up to the size above A4 and Mattes to suit (the Matte is a thick cardboard cutout that you mount inside the frame, and the photo goes inside the matte, sort of). I can print photo's up to A4 size, and need more of the larger frames than the smaller ones. I prefer plain black frames or fairly simple wood-tone ones. | $20-30 for frames, a few dollars each for Mattes in various styles |
AA NiMH's |
2800mAh or more AA batteries, set of four is around twenty odd dollars. Used in my camera, flash, assorted other devices. Packs of 4 is best so I can keep and charge them as a set. | ~$25 |
DVD's |
Any Pink Floyd (or related) DVD's. The ones I have are The Wall (the movie),
Roger Waters' In the Flesh and David Gilmour Live in Concert. Ones that I
don't have include
|
Some places have a 2-for-$x deal, so maybe gang up with someone. |
CD's |
I lost a few Floyd CD's when we got robbed a few years ago, but to be honest I'm not
sure which ones exactly I'm missing. Some that I definitely don't have:
|
$20 - $30 |
EL-wire, Blue. Might also be called something like Glo-wire. It's.. err... wire that glows :-) kinda like a flexible, thin fluro tube. Can be found at good computer stores (like the disc shop and GameDude), and at Jaycar. Usually packaged in a set length, with a small power supply. I intend to add some keyboard lighting to my desk (so I can work/play with the lights out). | ~$30 | |
An Ultra Violet flurescent lamp (UV Blacklite). Dick Smith now stock some small ones (pictured) for about $25. They also do a pack with a light and a UV marker pen for $30 (cat no's L8042 and L8140P respectively) | $20? | ~$20 |
$20 to $30 |
